Arrive Alive Recap

Two of two! Tonight was the only other new episode of Batwoman in the month of April. Fans will have to wait a bit longer as next week there isn't a new episode. That said, while we still don't know much about Kate Kane, there was plenty to discover with Ryan and team Batwoman tonight. Sophie worked closely with our new Batwoman and Sophie's no idiot, did she discover the real identity of Batwoman? Is Jacob still taking Snakebite? All this and more, here's what stood out to us:

  1. Angelique Turns Walter White: Black Mask can't make more Snakebite and with Angelique out of prison, his team captures her and brings her back to base. In order to save her own life, Angelique agrees to help Black Mask to make the drug. Alice tracks down Enigma and asks for her help in forgetting Kate. Batwoman hunts down the carrier of the ingredient that Angelique needs and stops her, but to her surprise, it was actually Sophie in disguise.
  2. Jacob Unhinged: Jacob isn't doing very good. He's on the Snakebike drug, and he's being over protective of Sophie. He dismisses Sophie and puts another agent in charge with a reputation of scorching everything in sight to get to his objective. Sophie decides to pair up with Ryan to launch her own investigation.
  3. Alice vs Young Kate: Alice begins her treatment with Enigma but it seems that Enigma might be messing with her as more of her memories of Ocean resurface too. Sophie uses Luke to get Ryan her fake identity. The two have to pretend they don't know each other. Using the Batmobile's AI driving software, Ryan is able to get the job using Mary's car.
  4. Fast and Furious Gotham Drift: Ryan gets the shipment and starts driving. Luke takes over for Ryan while she places the trackers. They are able to elude the cops and deliver the fear toxin to the drop off. When Sophie and Luke arrive at the meet up, Sophie is gone, she is taking them on by herself. Alice undergoes another treatment but it is interrupted by the real Ocean who isn't dead.
  5. Mocking Bird: Ocean is pissed and wants to know why Alice killed him. Alice is able manipulate both Ocean and Enigma and take the upper hand. Just as Alice is about to make the killing blow, Enigma whispers one word and unlocks Ocean and Alice's memories of each other. Sophie heads to stop Black Mask but is captured. Batwoman arrives and the pair capture him but Black Mask uses a live feed of Angelique to stop the two from unmasking him and he is able to escape.

In the finale wrap up moments, we learn that Angelique doesn't know the full formula for Snakebite. Before killing her, Angelique convinces Black Mask to let her find Ocean. Ocean and Alice meet in a back ally, their feelings for each other returned. Sophie finds the bat computer in Mary's car and thus discovers who Batwoman is!

Quoting CatPat:
As for Julia, I was hoping she had left herself some breadcrumbs in case Enigma whammied her again.
You'd think, if a highly trained spy learned that she'd had memories wiped, and knew who done it, and she was tracking down that person, they'd leave themselves breadcrumbs, snacks, or at least a menu!

Quoting Siggi:
It actually was already blown before that some episode in the past as Luke was at the Crows headquarter and Sophie figured out that he was working with Batwoman.
Oh, right, I vaguely remember that, altho I don't recall him confirming his knowing about Kate as Batwoman. I get the feeling the writers are setting the stage for the Bat Team.

Quoting CatPat:
I was again disappointed that we did not get a Kate update. But, overall a better episode than last week.
I was really hoping we'd get a final scene of the episode with Kate to tease us since we have to wait another two week for the "big reveal". Hopefully, she'll have more than the last scene in the May 2 episode. As for the episode overall, Alice seems to be back to being Alice again, so yeah, a much better episode than most this season.

.....
Of course, this means that Luke's "cover" as Batwoman's wingman is now blown, too.

A good episode with a great ending! :-)
My review is now in the forum.

I really liked Alice's scenes - great character development. And the play of emotions on Alice's face - Rachel is such a great actor!

I was disappointed that Julia is MIA again. Maybe Alice will get her back, since they were working together.

I totally agree on both points. Alice is a freakin rock star. As for Julia, I was hoping she had left herself some breadcrumbs in case Enigma whammied her again.

This was a huge improvement over last week's episode.

Picking up from last week's best moment, Alice essentially taking over Enigma's office was quite entertaining, as are most Alice scenes. Rachel has comeca long way since Birds of Prey may years ago. I think Reign was the last thing I saw her in prior to Batwoman and I had no idea she had it in her, but she is awesome as Alice. Possibly the best villain ever in Arrowverse.

I was wondering when Ocean would resurface. Alice playing him in Enigma's office provided more entertainment.

How will Safiyah react to Enigma restoring his and Alice's memories.

Will TPTB delve any into Enigma's lineage?

Mary was notably absent onscreen, although she loaned her wheels offscreen. Will she like the new bullet holes in her mirror?

Jacob is a bit testy from the snakebite.

Still not invested in Angelique.

I was amused that Sophie reached out to Luke to fake Ryan's background. Leslie is so much more believable as the amusing Ryan than as the serious (no nonsense) Batwoman. Coming from Berlanti's GFM, she has honed a light almost comical style that shows here. Luke breaking it to her that her driving skills have not improved was a great moment between the two.

The voice modulator appeared to be working again when the Bat took down undercover Sophie.

Will they introduce Luke as Batwing this season or hold it until next season? I assume the Luke on Earth 99 in Crisis was a corrupt Batwing but they didn't really explore it.

I wanted Sophie to pull off No Face's black mask... its kinda a big head piece and looks like it would slip off easily.

Sophie is in the know now. Always remember to remove the bat tech! Bruce Wayne would be so disappointed.

I was again disappointed that we did not get a Kate update. But, overall a better episode than last week.

I understand buildings have security cameras, but if I were Black Mask, I would make sure I had a way to erase those feeds as soon as one of my locations had been compromised - I wouldn't want incriminating evidence lying around.

I also find it really hard to believe that Ryan left the AI in the car, much less than Luke didn't remind her to grab it (or he had a way to remotely wipe it). Be that as it may. I guess Sophie and Batwoman will be working together in the future. Of course, this means that Luke's "cover" as Batwoman's wingman is now blown, too.
