I don't think that Caroline underestimates the intelligence over the audience, as it doesn't need intelligence to accept a recast. I think she rather
overestimates the "akwardness" of such situation, as it is at least pretty odd when the characters behave like nothing has happened when suddenly one of them looks totally diferent. Even most of the audience should be ok with it and they would accept such a swap.

Regarding story reason to do that: Well, as I said, I don't know exactly what she means by that. But your idea as an example wouldn't work for me. How will you justify Kate staying but now having a new face as she is wearing such a face mask like Mouse and Hush? And she would have to do that the WHOLE time, for the rest of her life. That wouldn't work. Ok, her "ruby" face could be horrible disfigured in an accident or so.....but who would want that to happen?
Hard to find a story reason for that. Perhaps something Sci-fi with multiverse or some magic whatever.
But I would rather just replace the actress as to come up with some odd story-reason for it. So, there we agree on that. And I hope they do that when/if Kate Kane shows up again.

Yeah, I think Javicia only meant that she would be super excited in a crossover with Black Lightning. Nothing bad about that. However as we know know that Black Lightning is ending and -due to corona- they won't have any crossover this year.....that won't happen.

And you say that you "think you are out", but then say you will binge watch the first 4-5 episodes? That doesn't fit together for me
However I can only encourage you to just watch the first episodes and then decide what to do. That's always a good thing to do.
