I couldn't find any reference to Sara Serraiocco being a lesbian herself, but an article I read leads me to believe that she is not, she just played one. I suspect that, as with the other CW shows, they'll go with someone relatively unknown this time.

Couldn't tell you, I've only seen her in the one role (Counterpart), and most of her interviews are in Italian.

She was also born the same year as Ruby (1986), although she's 5 months older.

I think you mean younger, according to IMDB she was born in August, Ruby was born in March.

A rumor by seemingly well informed insider:

They are seemingly going for an actress that is already on a CW show and looks a bit like Ruby
https://twitter.com/Vullein/status/1263463260080279552

Well, don't have an opinion on that as I don't have any clue who that could be. :o

That's the Peyton List thing I saw.

She has a wealth of previous work with The CW, looks like Ruby, is virtually the same age as Ruby, and is already familiar with Berlanti Productions.

Bad move IMO, she's already been on The Flash multiple times, I for one cannot buy Lisa Snart and Kate Kane having the same face. Batwoman changing face is jarring enough, but changing to look exactly like another Arrowverse character is too far. :(

The popular fan-cast is Wallis Day:

Peyton List's appearances as Lisa Snart more than likely aren't/wouldn't be an issue, but an offhanded comment would be more than adequate to cover their bases in that area.

Arrowverse producer Marc Guggenheim talks Ruby Rose's departure from Batwoman.

https://collider.com/batwoman-ruby-rose-exit-marc-guggenheim/

Peyton List has done a lot of DC TV shows.

She was Lucy Lane on Smallville in seasons 4 and 10.

She's Lisa Snart / Golden Glider on The Flash.

She played the final version of Batman villain Poison Ivy on Gotham in Seasons 4 and 5.

She also voiced Poison Ivy in the recent animated film,Batman:Hush.

Visually, I could see either Wallis Day or Peyton List in the role.

After reading the Marc Guggenheim article, it does beg the question - will the new actor play Kate Kane (and will they address the appearance change), or will they be someone else taking over as Batwoman (because Kate Kane went MIA, just like Bruce?)?!?

Absolutely is a whopping issue, especially for Flash fans - Lisa Snart was no one off single ep character. They do that, I quit this series, and also, bye to the forum - I'll stick to the Batwoman Comics forums. >:[

I won't be the only one upset if they do this too.

After reading the Marc Guggenheim article...or will they be someone else taking over as Batwoman (because Kate Kane went MIA...?!?

Have a re-read. You've misinterpreted. No, they are not replacing Kate Kane - if they did that it would be an entirely different show and wouldn't be Batwoman season 2. As a long time Batwoman Comics fan, this suggestion is very insulting. If they wanted someone other than Kate Kane it would be an entirely different show, and that I am okay with, but not with tossing Kate aside because the first actress to play her left. Call it Batgirl, or Batwing, or whichever other character they wanted to make a show about, but don't pretend Kate Kane can just be swapped out like that.

Another actress who wants the role:

Katy O'Brian fits the bill. She has a recurring role on Black Lightning as an ASA agent Sara Grey.

Note: Not to be confused with Kate O'Brian

Rachel Skarsten is 5' 10", about 3-4 inches taller than Ruby.

Here is a CW actress that may fit the bill.

Katy O'Brian is a CW actress. She has a recurring role on Black Lightning as ASA Elite Team Member Sara Grey.

She is a martial arts expert!!!!

She is 5'7", about the same height as Ruby and looks similar to Ruby. Compared to Rachel Skarsten who is 5'10".

It seems her eyes are hazel not blue...

I don't see any religious affiliation for her.

Now is this hitting too close to home as she has been on Black Lightning recurring since season 2. She works for ASA Odell, who we learned this season is from Gotham.

Note: Black Lightning films in Georgia. The new actress must be comfortable filming in Vancouver. Katy was a regular on the final season of Z Nation (filmed in Washington?) and she had a recurring role on Walking Dead (films in Georgia?) prior to Black Lightning.

Update: Location may not be an issue. I see Katy has posted on Facebook that she wants an audition for Batwoman.

As far Counterpart's Sara Serraiocco, I am not sure of her real life sexual orientation is either... but I do like her... not sure about the Italian accent. I am only familiar with her as Baldwin on Counterpart and she can kick butt... lol.

I do think they have to cast a LGBTQ actress as they said they would do so. Otherwise, I think actors should be allowed to act and play parts different from who they may be in real life. I would not want a LGBTQ actor to be denied an audition or role because the part is straight. Let actors act. However, in this case, a promise was made the casting would be LGBTQ and that promise must be honored. No offense to anyone and its fine if you do not agree with me.

Some also want the actress to be Jewish like the comic book character. I feel the same about this as above. Let actors act.

I mean I don't think they picked Rachel because she is a bat crazy sociopathic killer in real life. My apologies if she is :D !

IMO cannot buy her as being Rachel Skarsten's sister. Also the big issue of being a character on Black Lightning - which is now part of the Arrowverse.

I'm warming to the idea of Wallis Day taking the role, even though she is a bit young.

Well, Kate Kane is 25 in the the show, Wallis Day is 25 too ;)

What I never fully realised until now is that the CW has casted quite some actresses that are about 10 years older than the roles they play on this show. Meagan Tandy, Christina Wolfe and Ruby as well.
I don't think that is a big "problem".
BUT I really hope that they will cast someone for Batwoman that isn't older as ...let's say 32.
The role demands a lot in physical strength, she must be/should be very fit.
Also I want the show to run for as many season as possible, therefore the actress shouldn't be too old when she enters the TV show.
Stephen Amell in Arrow was a good example, he was around 30 when he started and around 38 when he "left". You can't play such a role for much longer if you are a vigilante/hero.
Melissa was around 27 when she started as Supergirl.
Grant was around 24 when he started as The Flash.

I think she is supposed to be 25 in Point Rock flashbacks, 28 as Batwoman. But as long as the actress looks to be within the right age range that it doesn't really matter.

Based on rumors, the producers are taking the following four criteria into account:
* "Name" value (recognizability)
* Physical similarity to Ruby Rose
* CW alumni status (so as to avoid another unpleasantness situation)
* Sexual orientation (LGBTQ)

Peyton E. List satisfies at least 3 of those criteria and may satisfy all of them (info about her sexual orientation isn't publicly available).

Wallis Day, Jade Tailor, Bex Taylor-Klaus, and Daria Berenato do have experience with grueling TV filming schedules, are physically similar to Ruby, and are or may be LGBTQ, but Peyton E. List has a more extensive filmography than all four of them, making her a more recognizable "name". She's also a CW alumnus, which, as noted, is one of the criteria the producers are rumored to be targeting.

Another interesting aspect, for which we may never get an answer:
When was it decided that Ruby leaves?
I'm sure it wasn't in the last weeks.
That decision was surely made at least 2 or 3 months ago in my opinion.

And another question arises:
Are they already looking for ...or perhaps even casting actresses since that day?
Do they already have a new Batwoman??? :o

Of course they should wait some time that the dust settles a little bit, and the dissapointment of some folks has faded a little.
Ok, it might be dangerous if they already made an decision since that could leak out now and then it would look very bad.

Damn would love to know more about all that was ....and is going right now on in the CW/WB offices!! :o

Regarding character ages versus actor ages (so as to help with casting determination), the character of Kate Kane in the Arrowverse was born in January 1990, making her 28 years old during the Elseworlds crossover and the first four episodes of Batwoman Season 1 and 29 for the remainder of Batwoman Season 1.

Ruby Rose was born in March 1986 and started her Batwoman journey when she was 32 and ended it at age 34.

Of the actresses I mentioned in my last post, Jade Tailor is 34 (born August 1985), Peyton E. List is 33 (born August 1986), Daria Berenato is 26 (born September 1993), Wallis Day is 25 (born September 1994), and Bex Taylor-Klaus is also 25 (born August 1994).

Of those actresses (and, yes, Berenato is an actress being that she is a professional wrestler), Tailor and List would have the easiest time selling Kate's age relative to 35-year-Rachel Skarsten (born April 1985 and playing 29-year-old Beth Kane/Alice) and as a replacement for Ruby, although the 3 younger women could do so too.

If Kate is 28, then Alice/Beth would be 28, not 29. Unless you mean when the show picks up both will be 29.

Wallis Day has the look. I really, really liked her on Krypton and wish we got a season 3 to wrap things up. But is she out as LGBTQ?

Peyton List... I get the two Peyton's mixed up... not sure which has the "E" ... I assume the once referenced is the one who played Poison Ivy on Gotham? LGBTQ?

Katy O'Brian was based on the assumption they were going with someone already in the CW family as someone posted. Is she LGBTQ? Although, it could be someone from TVD that Caroline worked with...

I love Bex, but she is only 5'3", compared to Rachel's 5'10" stature that would be odd. She, like Katy, is already part of Arrowverse as the character Sin. I wished Fox did not cancel Deputy.

My guess is the pro Wrestler is out because I be they want someone who can go toe-to-toe with Rachel on acting.

I liked Jade on Magicians. I don't know if she is LGBTQ.

I assume the decision to let Ruby leave was previously decided but held until after the season finale aired. I also assume they already had the replacement in mind and now need to work out the details before announcing.

Both Kate and Beth/Alice are 29 as of the conclusion of Batwoman Season 1, but were 28 (played by a 32 and 33 year old, respectively) as of their first appearances (Elseworlds for Kate and the Batwoman Pilot for Beth/Alice). Ruby turned 33 while the Pilot was being filmed, and Rachel had turned 34 by the time it premiered.

Regarding heights, there was a 3'' difference between Ruby and Rachel, but it wasn't noticeable onscreen, so I don't think it's a consideration of qualification for the role of Kate.

Peyton E. List is the one from The Tomorrow People, The Flash, and Gotham, yes, and is 5'7'' like Ruby.

I can't find any information on her sexual orientation or the sexual orientations of Jade Tailor or Wallis Day, but Daria is a lesbian and Bex is non-binary.

I wonder how long they'll wait until announcing who they cast as the new Batwoman.

Of the fan-casts Wallis gets my vote. If Alice looks obviously older than her twin, chalk it up to her stressful upbringing compared to Kate's.

Thanks for the added information. I knew Wallis has played bisexual but didn't know she was in real life. I really liked her on Krypton.

I somewhat liked Peyton on Gotham as Ivy 3.0 but actually preferred Ivy 2.0 to her. They didn't really give her a lot to do.

I am a big fan of Bex and devastated that deputy was cancelled; but, I do think 7" is a considerable height difference to work around. People complain a lot about Tyler's height as Superman.

I am wondering about LGBTQ reaction. There was an issue of sorts inside LGBTQ community when Ruby pondered about possibly identifying with the term non-binary. I thought it was fair pondering as I suspect many straight and LGBTQ at one time or another may have found themselves identifying with both genders. This surprised me to a certain degree that people would blast her for it and come to the conclusion she wasn't "lesbian" enough despite the fact she came out at 12. Although, I do get Batwoman is a jewish lesbian in the comic and a lot people want her cast with a like actress.

I know you can't please everyone all the time. I do trust Caroline Dries judgement and suspect she and her team will pick a solid replacement and I hope whoever is picked is given a fair chance. I hate that Ruby left. I thought she was well cast, but she wanted out and fans should not hold it against her replacement.

I look forward to the pending announcement. I like several of these mentioned candidates.

I did a search to confirm if Wallis is indeed bisexual, and apparently I had confused her IRL sexual orientation with the sexual orientation of her Krypton character Nyssa and there is actually not any publicly available information about which gender(s) she is attracted to IRL.

Regarding Bex, they are currently engaged to a woman and far more combative than Ruby was, so if any backlash were hurled their way from anyone, inside or outside of the LGBT community, they would openly and publicly tell the haters to stuff their opinions up their behinds.
