The more I think about it, as much as I like Ruby as Kate, the more I think they should just recast the the character of Kate, completely ignore the appearance change (or chalk it up to a post-Crisis glitch), and run with it. Cuz this new actress is going to have to carry the show for the next six+ years, and ultimately, she will be the one that people identify as Kate Kane. Besides, it's not like the Batman franchise hasn't done it before - three very different women played Catwoman in the Original Series!

I wojuld just recast and not worry about creating a in story reason for Kate looking different.

Yes... I too feel they should just roll with it. A little qwip and a new haircut or something like... oh Kate, I didn't realize it was you will suffice... but what about those tattoos?

I guess they could always use make up if they want to show the tattoos.

What you suggested about a little quip reminds of what they did with the recasting of Rhodey in Iron Man 2.There was a little meta acknowledgment between Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. in their first scene together in the film.

I think it's pretty clear that, regardless of how or why we got to the situation we're in, the Batwoman producers will just recast and carry on without explaining why Kate looks different.

Not only is a detail like that unimportant narratively, it kind of sets up the new actress for failure because it calls attention to the change.

I do think they'll 'lampshade' the situation at some point, but that's different than making the change in actress a narrative focus.

Oh, there's definitely more to the story that we're not privy to. The ONLY facts we have is that Ruby decided to leave the show, and the producers let her. All the "reasons" why being bandied about the 'net right now are RUMORS. Hmm, curiously, I went to re-read the article, and looks like they changed it a bit, and took out a few of their own (rumor-generating?) spins on the story.

Yes, the tattoos are a physical trait that they've put some focus on, but it's not like Kate was a Klingon and now suddenly she's a Cardassian! Whether they find an actress who happens to have a lot of tattoos, or not, she will likely continue to wear long-sleeved shirts, and we will all just roll with it. I doubt they'll do the makeup required to add tattoos, but who knows.

If I read your post correctly, I think the phrase you're looking for is "hang a lantern on it". Which, personally, I think the show could use a little more of, rather than leaving plot holes big enough to fly the Waverider thru just lying around.

I suspect what we heard or speculated as "rumored" is likely the truth but probably a bit sanitized.

Clearly there was drama of sorts for all parties to agree to the abrupt departure.

This video is just more rumor-mongering - I have no idea who these two yahoos are, but they don't know anything more than we do and are just espousing their own opinions. It doesn't matter why Ruby is no longer Batwoman, the decision is already made (regardless of who made it), we weren't there, so we have no right to judge. Let's move on, shall we?

Entertainment Tonight - and its Canadian affiliate - is a very credible and legitimate news agency, and so that video carries weight even though it's less actual news reporting and more discussion about what we know or don't know.

In a move that shouldn't surprise anyone... CW replaced the Batwoman cover art for it fall schedule, removing the Ruby Rose image.

She is way too small for that role (5'2, 1,60m).
I wonder if some of these articles are just an invention from those pages to get clicks.
Perhaps I should just pick an actress and say "she is reportedly being eyed to become to new Batwoman" on a post over at my Blog.
