what do you think of them casting Ruby Rose as Batwoman?

I’m actually excited to see what Rose does with the character. Rose is a boxer so already has fighting experience. They have had personal attacks, both verbal and physical, over their orientation most of their life, so is relatable to the plight Kane goes through at West Point. They have been in a highly visible spotlight since they started modeling in Australia so they understand the “showmanship” that Kane will have to take on to get the support needed to rebuild Gotham. About the only thing Rose doesn’t share with Kane is being Jewish and ex military. Now I know having that previous experience doesn’t mean they can act it out in a performance, but, as was previously mentioned, I’m willing to see how those parallels translate for Rose in the final product.

see, I have to say you do a disservice to the memory of Heath by putting Ruby in the same category as him. If the CW is so confident, they could release casting tapes, talk about her many auditions (like my gawd how many did Melissa do?), etc.

Heath’s audition tapes weren’t released before the movie. He just let his acting do the talking. It’s too early to condemn Ruby and judging by the comments you are making on every topic and article, that’s the only thing you want to do. All Ruby has done is accept a role and is a lesbian. If Ruby sucks at the part then the show will fail and a GIANT black mark will be placed on Berlanti’s record. All that said, being the only man in TV to have 15 live shows in production, it’s pretty safe to trust his judgement. It’s not fair and too early to condemn Ruby and I would say that of any actor they found for the part.

this decision is just a mistake overall. it is stuntcasting or careless casting. the uproar over this casting should not be dismissed as entitled fandom or overly sensitive minorities, this shows a pattern at the CW. Batwoman is an iconic woman, this will be an iconic role, and I doubt we will get the same sense that the CW looked at 1000 actors and always kept coming back to RR, they saw RR first, if we couldn't get RR we wouldn't be doing this etc.

I would advise caution. Is it safe to say you don’t care for Ruby’s work in the past, sure. That is fair. Maybe saying that this isn’t a good call based on what you’ve seen of her work is fair. I, however, don’t think it’s fair to condem her or the show without seeing how she plays the part. Heath Ledger was condemned and he is arguably the best Joker of all time.

Totally agree. Over on Supergirl.tv we have rules about how we talk and share ideas and that will be true here. No bashing or hateful remarks will be tolerated.

I will say, however, that she wasn't my first choice, but I think she will do well. I have seen her in Orange is the New Black and she can certainly carry a scene. I will echo what JD_Cunegan said that I want to see her in costume and in part when she plans Kate Kane.

Melissa Benoist wasn't our first choice way back when and we can't think of Supergirl being played by anyone else now.

I know her name, and I know what she's been in, but I've never actually seen any of it, so I don't really have an opinion on her either way. I'm struck by just how divided people are about her, though (but with this being the Internet, maybe I shouldn't be). I'm like you: I wanna see her in the suit and in action before I truly have an opinion.
