After last week, Luke Fox has come out of his coma even though he made a choice to leave and be with his father in the afterlife. That is a huge decision that is going to weigh on Luke for some time. Of course, with the recent reveal that Luke Fox is going to suit up as Batwing, we likely believe this will be the outcome of Luke's life changing shooting. Of course, on the other hand, we have Alice, now capable of love seeking her father's help to find and save her sister Kate! Their ally? Ocean, the very man who created Snake Bite, the drug Jacob used to escape losing Kate. What could make all this better? JOHN DIGGLE! Here's what stood out to us tonight:
- An Empty Cave: Batwoman needs backup after someone in a suit is stabbed via a Katana blade. The assailant makes off with his briefcase and Batwoman radios for assistance but Luke isn't there. He is lost in contemplation. Tarkov is able to make bail on his trial. Jacob is held as a hero for disbanding the Crows and we learn that Safiyah is working with Black Mask. They have created a background story to cover Cersi and launch a new makeup line. While the pair discuss Kate and Alice, Jacob and Alice capture Cersi and confirm her identity as Kate. Batwoman faces off against Tatiana who's killing witness protection agents in Gotham.
- Kate Kane: Jacob and Alice have Kate in the abandoned Crows headquarters. She tries to escape but Alice knocks her out. Ocean arrives and Jacob learns it was Enigma that took away Alice's ability to love not Cartwright. Batwoman and Mary are covering for Luke. They find out that Tatiana is hunting down people that were once in witness protection because of something they did against the Sionis family. Tatiana seems to be covering up loose ends for the makeup conglomerate. Luke enters a bar where Tarkov is. The two have words but before it comes to blows, Diggle appears.
- Remembering Yourself: Alice and Jacob start showing Kate things that might jog her memory. Once Alice tells the story of how she knew Kate was gay before she even told her, Kate's memory triggered, but not fully. Ryan meets Luke while he is playing a poker game. He tells Ryan that he didn't want to live after what happened to him. Jacob calls Mary and lets her know that they have Kate and she is alive. They piece it together that Safiyah is there because of Sionis. Just then, Safiyah and her crew arrive at Crows headquearters to take Cersi back. Alice buys Kate time and Batwoman is there to get her back to the Batcave.
- John Diggle: Luke, Diggle and Tarkov are all playing poker. Luke outplays Tarkov who is cheating and Diggle watches. At Black Mask's place, Jacob finds out that Black Mask has the entire GCPD on his payroll. There are no good law enforcement agents in Gotham. Tarkov goes to beat up Luke but Diggle is there to set him straight. Kate returns to Wayne Tower where Ryan and Mary meet with her. When Kate sees Sophie she remembers her immediately.
- Kate vs Cersi: There is a battle in Kate's head and Cersi is winning. Alice seems to be the key to break her free but Safiyah has her. Team Batwoman decide that they will offer Safiyah the only remaining Desert Rose plant for Alice and Kate's lives. Diggle gives Luke some advise and through morse code and the bat signal, Luke returns to the team. Jacob is outted as Alice's father but he makes a plea on her behalf. Alice and Safiyah come face to face. The two have it out but before the fight can happen, Batwoman arrives to offer the Desert Rose to Safiyah. Safiyah accepts. When Alice goes to gloat that she has her boyfriend and sister, and Safiyah only has a plant, Safiyah alludes that Alice might not have her boyfriend anymore.
In the final wrap up moments, we join Kate and Sophie on the couch. Cersi and Kate continue to battle. Batwoman is ready to take Alice to visit Kate but Alice leaves to try and find Ocean. Tatiana arrives but Alice kills her to get to Ocean who is already dead. Jacob is arrested and transferred to Metropolis so he will be protected. Jacob is counting on Mary to bring back Beth and Kate. Ryan and Luke share a moment on their way to visit Kate but Cersi has taken control again. Cersi goes back to Sionis but she is shattered, unsure who she is. She stabs Sionis but doesn't kill him when Safiyah arrives to offer answers.

Did Ryan give up the Desert Rose plant selflessly? Absolutely! Did she do it to get Kate back? No doubt about it. Does she believe that getting Kate back means that she has to give up being Batwoman? Obviously. But, even knowing that Kate's personality is out of whack and may not ever be her real self again, Ryan is all but handing over the batsuit already... because of her lack of self-confidence.
Or it speaks for Ryan selflessly giving away her beloved (and now incredibly powerful) plant to get Kate back, someone she doesn't even know.
She acknowledges that Kate deserves the suit because she was/is the first Batwoman. It's the right thing to do. Also, she is ready to give it back, not everyone would do that, even is ...also...the right thing to do.
I think with Enigma's brainwash broke , she can now access more of her former self... so eventually we should get to Red Alice. I am interested to see if she reverts back and spirals because of Ocean's death or if that loss pushes her closer to reconnect with Kate and Jacob?
Is that some kind of running gag to rename Tavaroff in each recap?
In episode 15 you called him Tarkarov.
In episode 16 you called him Tarkov.
I suggest Tarkarovsky for the next recap

I will post my review tomorrow.
Alice to Kate as Kate's memories are starting to resurface ... Okay, I'm going to take your hands, just don't break mine.
And in that scene, there's this interesting exchange:
Kate: You found me, but I didn't find you.
Alice: It's okay, there's still time.
That suggests to me that Alice knows (has always known?) that Beth is still inside her, waiting, even wanting, to get out. That's why she kept baiting Kate last season, why the Beth part of her didn't want Kate to give up on her, but the Alice part kept pushing her away. She's still waiting for Kate to rescue her. I think we're in for some serious character re-development next season where Alice/Beth is concerned. And I think the public revelation that Alice is Beth is going to play a role in that.
Quoting CatPat: I vaguely remember something about this being a crossover, without being a crossover, so yeah, his appearances in Batwoman, Flash and Supergirl are all related and building up to... something (I'm guessing his decision whether or not to become Green Lantern). His appearance in Legends is a totally different character, but don't know if it's related. He's only going to direct an episode of S&L, not appear in it.
Quoting CatPat: I was surprised he told someone so quickly, and I expected it to be Mary first, not Ryan. But I liked the way they handled it. Not too overly dramatic, but still had some weight to it.
Quoting CatPat: I think they want us to know that the GCPD is as corrupt as the Crows were.
Quoting CatPat: Indeed! I'm actually excited for the next episode, now!
Given the clues from this episode, I'm thinking she loaned Tatiana to Roman to clean up any evidence of Circe's crime, and as long as Tatiana was in Gotham, to check in on Ocean to see if he'd made any progress on finding the last remaining Desert Rose. Tatiana, of course, would not have hesitated to report that Ocean and Alice were awfully chummy. Yeah, I think Tatiana got off too easy with that quick death.
Quoting CatPat: Okay, I can see maybe where Beth may have had Kate's keys to her first motorcycle in her pocket when she went over the bridge, but the mug and the backpack, too?!? Wait! She did tell Jacob that all she had was a photograph to keep her grounded, so she must have stolen them after returning from Coryana. Even tho she was on a Enigma-induced vengeance path, she still collected memories of her old life. I love that she has this stuff, these connections to her past!
Quoting CatPat: She originally had Alice & Ocean's memories/love of each other completely erased because of her own jealousy. And with Enigma not answering her calls, I think Safiyah's jealousy won out over practicality this time.
Quoting CatPat:
I think this speaks to Ryan's own lack of self-confidence, and believing that Kate was the true hero Gotham needs, that she really was just borrowing the suit. And I really hope Caroline's not yanking our chain, here!
I suspect that is why she had Ocean killed. Perhaps Enigma told her off screen or she was having both Alice and Ocean watched.
