Survived Much Worse Recap

Here we go again, time for another brand new episode of Batwoman! You may have noticed our article earlier today, but if you didn't, it should be noted that Batwoman is going to have a few interruptions in April. There are only two episodes scheduled for April. Now that we've finished with the paperwork, on to the episode. From the synopsis we know that Alice and Batwoman make it to Coryana. But you might have missed that Luke and Mary have to deal with an unexpected guest in Gotham. Could that mean the Batcave? Who would know how to get into the Batcave? Answers await, here's what stood out to us:

  1. The Ticking Clock: Alice is ready to go to Coryana, Ryan is sicker than we've seen her before and Luke tips Sophie to where Alice is and that she has a tracker on her. Luke is able to engage Jacob and Sophie to go to Coryana to get Kate and get the Desert Rose for Ryan. Just before they take off, Safiyah's men kidnap them. Ryan has no choice but to use a shot of adrenaline to go save them that will also guarantee that she dies the same day.
  2. Coryana: All parties are headed to Coryana. Ryan takes the shot and Luke is able to get her a military plane to fly over the island. It isn't visible but Ryan uses the lenses in the Batsuit to locate where she needs to parachute in. Jacob and Sophie are also taken to the island. Safiyah wants Sophie there because she could be a could recruit, and Alice requested Jacob to be there to watch her kill Kate in front of his eyes. Just as Ryan lands, her comms are cut and warriors of Coryana descend on her.
  3. Batwoman is Captured: The army of Coryana warriors proves too much for Batwoman, she is captured. Just as Safiyah is about to give Kate to Alice, Batwoman is brought to Safiyah where she tells Safiyah that Ocean isn't really dead. Alice and Ryan are caged together. Safiyah decides to return Batwoman's favor of telling her Ocean isn't really dead and offers her Kate Kane or The Desert Rose. Ryan, unheroically chooses to save herself. This defaults Kate's life back to Alice.
  4. Deals Deals Deals: Kate's life isn't offered freely to Alice. Safiyah's men are able to track down and retrieve the real Ocean. Safiyah's original deal is offered. Kill Ocean and get Kate. Alice struggles but ultimately decides to Kill Ocean to get her sister but Alice has lost the motivation to kill Kate after Ryan talked her through her real motivations. Back in Gotham, Luke and Mary get a visit from a Safiyah assassin. Mary is able to get the drop on the assassin and they are able to escape to the cave.
  5. Reunified: Julia returns from seeking leads on Kate to find the assassin getting back up in Wayne Tower and she is able to take her out. Julia returns to tell Luke and Mary the news she learned. Tatiana goes to applaud Ryan for not choosing to save Kate over herself but Ryan explains she saw it in Alice's eyes that she wasn't going to kill Kate which is why she chose the Desert Rose. Safiyah takes Alice down to where they are keeping "Kate" but we discover it's just her things. Julia and Safiyah jointly explain that body parts were found and DNA matches Kate. She is supposedly dead.

In the final wrap up moments a TON of things happen. Ocean isn't dead because the knife had Desert Rose on it that healed him as soon as the knife was pulled out. Tatiana framed Safiyah for the death of Kate in order to help Safiyah get over her love of Alice. Alice burns down the Desert Rose field in revenge for not getting Kate back. Sophie stays with Ryan as Ryan never got the cure. Luke notes that he has the cure back in Gotham and it's actually Ryan's plant.

So about those body parts... how injured exactly is Kate Kane?

Yes,Kate does seem more like Martha.I know Pennyworth is in its own universe but comparing the two characters,Kate does seem to take more after her Aunt than her father.Luke and his father Lucius on Pennyworth seem a lot alike IMO.The Lucius Fox in Gotham was closer to the comics which makes sense since he was a bit older on that series. Then again,in the comics,Luke is Batwing and his brother Tim/Jace is The Next Batman of Future State.

It's funny it feels like I'm watching a Batwoman prequel when I watch Pennyworth right after more than a Batman one since Pennyworth features so many characters directly related to several of the Batwoman characters.lol

Julia's Father
Batwoman's Aunt & Uncle
Alice's Aunt & Uncle
Jacob's Sister
Luke 's Father
Julia's Grandparents(her grandfather is still appearing in Alfred's mind)

I think it was a stunt double.I believe I read in one of the interviews or trades that Wallis Day hasn't made her first appearance yet.I could be wrong though.

It would be cool if they could do a flashback with her and Supergirl to the day she spent with Kara in National City to discuss what to do with the Kryptonite. Although Covid-19 restrictions probably would not allow it.
Yeah, doubtful due to COVID-19 restrictions in Canada filming. We may get a mention on Supergirl at most(did you see The Flash thing on Black Lightning two episodes ago?).That's been one of the most disappointing aspects to this being Supergirl's final season. No interaction with the other show's characters.I understand why the COVID restrictions are in place and I agree that it is the right move. But it's still a sucky situation..Especially if what I've been speculating in the last day on the Supergirl forums turns out right based offf the episode 1-2 synopisis and EW.com interview.

Glad to see Julia back as well.It kind of funny.Pennyworth is on right after I watch Batwoman. So I watch a series about Julia's dad featuring Kate's Aunt(and Jacob's sister) and Uncle right after.lol
I too watched Pennyworth. I really enjoy it. It turns out Kate is a lot like her aunt Martha Kane. Was that a stunt double in the dungeon or Wallis Day behind the mask?

It would be cool if they could do a flashback with her and Supergirl to the day she spent with Kara in National City to discuss what to do with the Kryptonite. Although Covid-19 restrictions probably would not allow it.

Great episode tonight including a big surprise ending. Also I don't think we've seen the last of Safiyah. She is going to want payback for Alice torching her Desert Roses and I bet she'll find out about Ryan's.

I missed the first 10-15 minutes, CBS 60 Minutes was airing on our CW affiliate instead of Batwoman, then it suddenly switched to Batwoman already in progress.

I was about ready to throw something at the tv when it looked like they were slapping Kate Kane fans in the face with news she is dead . So, I assume we are meant to assume that was Kate in the dungeon, alive with the battered face and mask. It was her pendant or was it. The pendants seem to be a dime a dozen on Coryana. But was that dungeon, for lack of a better word, on Coryana? Safiyah doesn't seem like a liar in that she said she never had Kate. So, is it Tatiana holding her captive?

Update: Ah, that was the sewers of Gotham and not a dungeon.

Alice really hit Safiyah where it hurt. Good for her!

How did the desert rose get in that flower pot? Does Mary have some DR left in her? Did Alice slip it in?

Update: Ah, so Angelique apparently got the plant from Ocean.

A BIG YAYS that Julia finally returned from MIA. Julia Pennyworth rocks!
