I came across this article from Hypable.

https://www.hypable.com/batwoman-ryan-wilder-batsuit/

I gotta say, as someone who was really sore about the showrunners ditching Kate Kane, I think giving Ryan her own, different bat suit would be a good call.

Many fans of Batwoman (comics and season 1), including myself, are still sore about the decision to completely change characters. That said, I think it would ease viewers to make a clean break from Kate's Batwoman, instead of making it seem like Ryan is trying to be Kate's Batwoman.

In that sense, I think going with a brand new suit and style would be the correct move. Maybe even change up the color scheme. Make it clear to viewers and comic readers that this is NOT Kate Kane. It's a new character trying to stand on their own.

I personally am gonna give this new season 1-2 episodes to catch my interest. If I don't find it intriguing by then, I'll end up dropping Batwoman altogether. But going this direction, instead of having Ryan masquerade as Kate Kane, would definitely help, in my opinion.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts, you guys.

Some pictures from Sophie and Batwoman as they are following the news on the election:

I wonder how these two will come along in season 2?

A short but great video from set shows Javicia in the new costume:

Some screenshots from the video:

Wow, a really good, pure view on the costume! Even the cowl is missing…
She looks GREAT in the costume!
The new smooth textures are a great addition! :)

Here is a glimpse at her new costume and the new Batmobile(!) from far away:

Quite a cool car! Will be interesting to see how it looks in action in the show :-)
Yeah, it's just a first glimpse on the costume as it was shot at night from a distance.
But you can see that Javicia doesn't use the red wig from season 1 anymore. As they mentioned it already in the past months....her natural, curly hair is (still) visibile when she is in costume.
Besides that it is hard to say what was changed on the costume as well. Was the cowl changed as well? What about the suit?
Well, I hope that we will get some official promo shots of her in the new costume very soon.
Maybe this leaked material will speed up the process like in the past as all the set pictures surfaced.

Not to be a jerk, but I'm not liking how she looks in the current costume. I know they hinted she will get her own, and I look forward to seeing what that looks like. But right now...it just doesn't fit. That cowl doesn't flatter her face structure in any way. It makes her face look chubby, and we all know that she is a fit person.

I get this isn't "her costume". But it just looks...off. Maybe it'll improve with professional photos. But right now, still not feeling any hype for season 2.

So, what makes it suddenly a "cosplay" costume????? :o
It has nothing to do with the quality of the costume (I've made a few authentic costumes myself), but rather, the quality of the photos - the lighting, the stance, the great big smile - clearly, not professional promo shots. And then there's the text plastered across them - they look like fan photos, hence, at first glance I thought it was someone showing off her cosplay costume.

Ah, ok. I'm relieved :D
Yeah, that's all pictures someone posted on Twitter as he/she was able to make it on set....luckily.
After all the first promo picture isn't really good. These pictures are more interesting.
But who cares in the end....there will be plenty more promo shots.
And I hope we will get a short promo teaser in the next 3-4 weeks.

When I first saw these pictures, before reading who it was, I genuinely thought it was one of the members on this forum showing off her cosplay costume! :/

What???? I'm nearly speechless....
That's a 99% identical costume from what Kate used in season 1! As Javicia uses the suit since there isn't suddenly a new one.
(Javicia does wear the gloves during the Filming)
So, what makes it suddenly a "cosplay" costume????? :o
You should take a closer look on the pictures....

(and by the way: some cosplay costumes are better than what we get in TV and the movies)

Makes sense for the suit to basically start out like this and evolve over the season.Kate's suit didn't start out in it's final form either.

Indeed! Would be quite odd if Ryan shows up and they wold immediately have a new suit for her.
And yeah, Kate suit was changed one time in season 1. And she actually had 4 different cowls(!), if you count the Elseworlds crossover into it, which you should.

If you compare it with the cowl that Ruby Rose wore last, there are only small differences:
Javicia’s nose is even more covered by it and seemingly they don’t use the black paint around her eyes.
I’m not 100% sure, but it looks like there is a chin strap on that cowl!

I agree! I feel like she should have "The Mystery of The Batwoman" silver and red suit! I think it would suit her very well!

It's entirely possible I'm over thinking. But from a PR standpoint, I feel they've really put themselves in a precarious situation.
I think you're absolutely right - by trying so hard to be socially conscious, they've pretty much shot themselves in the foot. It's entirely possible I'm being overly pessimistic, but I fear the "World's Finest" team-up is never going to happen, after all.

Siggi - I admire your optimism. And I will be the first to buy you a beer if you're right! ;)

(And I hope my hopes won't be crushed during season 2....as I still bet that Kate Kane will come back to the show)

I personally hope you are right, but I'm really not counting on it. After promoting a black actress to the lead, and promoting it so strongly, to pull the rug out and replace her with a white character down the line (even if it is Kate) would be a public relations nightmare. There is a very strong possibility they've trapped themselves into never being able to revert to Kate without facing ANOTHER enormous wave of backlash. Which I'm not sure they can afford after the backlash they have received (and still are receiving) for sidelining Kate.

Even if they reveal "this was the plan all along", they are going to lose a great deal new audience they gained by casting Javicia, with no guarantee of recovering the audience they lost when they initially discarded Kate.

Right now I have two ideas how they might handle Ryan Wilder at the end of season 2
A) She gets her revenge for her mom and steps down on her own as the mission is accomplished for her
B) Sthe stays in the team as a partner to Kate Kane

We will see, but I am afraid we are getting a "little" off-topic in this thread.;)

Why do you think it's a reboot? It would be only a reboot if they would 100% ignore the first season and wouldn't use any of its story. And also they would have to ignore all the character developments from season 1. And that won't happen for sure!
It's a reboot in the sense that they're rebooting the character of Batwoman, in that, it's no longer Kate Kane; but I certainly hope that they're not rebooting the whole show! I suspect this might accelerate certain other plot lines, like Mary and Luke becoming closer, and possibly even Alice becoming Red Alice.

...
It seems we're all feeling pretty much the same - lots of trepidation about the reboot, but willing to hold out hope that Caroline is going to pull off a miracle that'll hook us in. At least they have the plotline of Kate's mysterious disappearance so they can bring her back if Ryan falls flat.

I think that they might drop some of the storyline that the ending of season 1 had, but no all of them.
I guess I'm the only one who is still very positive about season 2....at least right now.
Let's hope that will already change prior to season 2 and with the first episodes of season 2 at the latest.
Perhaps the DC Fandome will spread some more "hope" for season 2 for some of you.
