I came across this article from Hypable.

https://www.hypable.com/batwoman-ryan-wilder-batsuit/

I gotta say, as someone who was really sore about the showrunners ditching Kate Kane, I think giving Ryan her own, different bat suit would be a good call.

Many fans of Batwoman (comics and season 1), including myself, are still sore about the decision to completely change characters. That said, I think it would ease viewers to make a clean break from Kate's Batwoman, instead of making it seem like Ryan is trying to be Kate's Batwoman.

In that sense, I think going with a brand new suit and style would be the correct move. Maybe even change up the color scheme. Make it clear to viewers and comic readers that this is NOT Kate Kane. It's a new character trying to stand on their own.

I personally am gonna give this new season 1-2 episodes to catch my interest. If I don't find it intriguing by then, I'll end up dropping Batwoman altogether. But going this direction, instead of having Ryan masquerade as Kate Kane, would definitely help, in my opinion.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts, you guys.

(And I hope my hopes won't be crushed during season 2....as I still bet that Kate Kane will come back to the show)

I personally hope you are right, but I'm really not counting on it. After promoting a black actress to the lead, and promoting it so strongly, to pull the rug out and replace her with a white character down the line (even if it is Kate) would be a public relations nightmare. There is a very strong possibility they've trapped themselves into never being able to revert to Kate without facing ANOTHER enormous wave of backlash. Which I'm not sure they can afford after the backlash they have received (and still are receiving) for sidelining Kate.

Even if they reveal "this was the plan all along", they are going to lose a great deal new audience they gained by casting Javicia, with no guarantee of recovering the audience they lost when they initially discarded Kate.

It's entirely possible I'm over thinking. But from a PR standpoint, I feel they've really put themselves in a precarious situation.

Right now I have two ideas how they might handle Ryan Wilder at the end of season 2
A) She gets her revenge for her mom and steps down on her own as the mission is accomplished for her
B) Sthe stays in the team as a partner to Kate Kane

We will see, but I am afraid we are getting a "little" off-topic in this thread.;)

I think you're absolutely right - by trying so hard to be socially conscious, they've pretty much shot themselves in the foot. It's entirely possible I'm being overly pessimistic, but I fear the "World's Finest" team-up is never going to happen, after all.

Siggi - I admire your optimism. And I will be the first to buy you a beer if you're right! ;)

I agree! I feel like she should have "The Mystery of The Batwoman" silver and red suit! I think it would suit her very well!

Not to be a jerk, but I'm not liking how she looks in the current costume. I know they hinted she will get her own, and I look forward to seeing what that looks like. But right now...it just doesn't fit. That cowl doesn't flatter her face structure in any way. It makes her face look chubby, and we all know that she is a fit person.

I get this isn't "her costume". But it just looks...off. Maybe it'll improve with professional photos. But right now, still not feeling any hype for season 2.

Some pictures from Sophie and Batwoman as they are following the news on the election:

I wonder how these two will come along in season 2?

Not an easy topic for me.
Yes, it should look different then the suit and cowl that Kate Kane had.
But, these aspects MUST stay:
- Bat ears
- Batwoman logo

The red and black color scheme should stay. But perhaps with a color added?
I mean Batwoman fights at night, so most parts of the outfit should be black/should stay black to "blend in".
-
They already had 4 different cowls in the first season (incl. Elseworlds).
I'm 99,9% sure that Ryan Wilder will have a "new" cowl.
Hopefully it doesn't get any smaller than the last version. I want a mask that really conceals her identity.

I don't think many will confuse Ryan with Kate either way as Javicia looks ....quite different.... than Ruby ;)
But a new costume will underline that.
Perhaps she will wear the old costume in the first episode, but then Luke designs a new one for her.

Pretty sure that we might see her new costume this weekend ;)
(at least a glimpse at it)

Every character reboot seems to come with a suit reboot as well. And there's the fact that Ryan is 3 inches shorter than Kate! So, yeah I expect there'll be a suit change. Caroline's team writes characters well, so I'm hoping for the best.

Not happy about the Batwoman is no longer Kate Kane decision.

I have confidence in Caroline Dries, so, if she decides a new suit is order, then so be it. See the attachment picture from CBR... But, she is going to have to win me over and it won't be easy. Not just introducing a new character, but keeping the other characters connected and relevant, especially Alice. Rachel Skarsten is the best villain to hit Arrowverse in some time.

I will be sitting on pins and needles when the new season starts and hoping I buy in to it. Until then...

Oh, believe me, I'm in the same boat. I'm giving it 1-2 episodes for them to genuinely catch my interest in season 2, and if they don't, I'll be dropping Batwoman. I certainly wish the new actress well, and have no ill will for anyone involved. I'm hoping they prove me wrong, but this seems like a new show. Batwoman, as we knew it in season 1, is very likely over.

That being said, I would love to be pleasantly surprised.

I just shared this article to try and spread a bit of positivity, as well as give us something to discuss between now and January.

I'm very curious if we'll get an actual suit reveal at Fandome.

Kuddos for trying, kdogg87! :D

It's hard to be positive when a beloved character is basically tossed aside. Personally, I think Greg Berlanti needs to be b*slapped for suggesting the reboot in the first place. It seems we're all feeling pretty much the same - lots of trepidation about the reboot, but willing to hold out hope that Caroline is going to pull off a miracle that'll hook us in. At least they have the plotline of Kate's mysterious disappearance so they can bring her back if Ryan falls flat.

Why do you think it's a reboot? It would be only a reboot if they would 100% ignore the first season and wouldn't use any of its story. And also they would have to ignore all the character developments from season 1. And that won't happen for sure!
I think that they might drop some of the storyline that the ending of season 1 had, but no all of them.
I guess I'm the only one who is still very positive about season 2....at least right now.
Let's hope that will already change prior to season 2 and with the first episodes of season 2 at the latest.
Perhaps the DC Fandome will spread some more "hope" for season 2 for some of you.

It's a reboot in the sense that they're rebooting the character of Batwoman, in that, it's no longer Kate Kane; but I certainly hope that they're not rebooting the whole show! I suspect this might accelerate certain other plot lines, like Mary and Luke becoming closer, and possibly even Alice becoming Red Alice.

Makes sense for the suit to basically start out like this and evolve over the season.Kate's suit didn't start out in it's final form either.

Indeed! Would be quite odd if Ryan shows up and they wold immediately have a new suit for her.
And yeah, Kate suit was changed one time in season 1. And she actually had 4 different cowls(!), if you count the Elseworlds crossover into it, which you should.

If you compare it with the cowl that Ruby Rose wore last, there are only small differences:
Javicia’s nose is even more covered by it and seemingly they don’t use the black paint around her eyes.
I’m not 100% sure, but it looks like there is a chin strap on that cowl!
