I am following a brazilian Twitter/instagram page since before the show even started.
They provided a lot of good infos, often before others have confirmed it.

Today I read (translated with google translator from portugese to english):
A cast call for the second season of #Batwoman is unlucky and apparently someone else will wear the heroine's cloak in place of Kate Kane! Check out Ryan Wilder's description (working name):
RYAN WILDER - Woman, in her 20s, any ethnicity. Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She's adorable, messy, a little funny and untamed. She is also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the costume before her. With no one in her life to care for her, Ryan spent years as a drug delivery girl, dodging the Gotham police and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, retired and sober, Ryan lives in a van with his plant. A girl who would steal milk for a stray cat and who could kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. Lesbian assumed. Athletic. Raw. Impetuous. Fallible. And it is definitely not the stereotype of the American heroine.

Well, I really hope that someone has made this up! :o :o :o
That would totally change everything!
If Kate wouldn't be around anymore...what's with Alice, Jacob and Mary?
All these relationsships to Kate would be gone....and I would think that would be a damn shame.
Oh man, that would be a drastic gamechanger!
Please, let this be only a rumor!
The comic fans would go completely nuts...and not only them!
If they would do that....I am rather sure the show would be cancelled after season 2.

The casting call was pulled, so who knows.

Comicbook.com ponders that it may have been an intentional misdirect for those auditioning to give their own spin to the character and not try to mimic Rose's interpretation.

On a forum I stumbled upon this video from a Natalie Sharp, 24, canadian actress who worked on the Flash (Millie Rawlins / Sunshine)!
I don't have a clue, how "real" this audition tape is, and why it can be accessed on vimeo on her own page......but it is kind of interesting, very interesting:

Interesting text also....clearly seems like Mary or Luke is speaking to her. Is that actually how they will meet her? Is this from an actual script of the first episode?
Would be such a blast, if that would be actually the new Batwoman. :D
I guess she is just one of dozens of canididates.

It's such a disappointing turn of events to lose Ruby Rose as Batwoman. I don't know what season 2 will hold, but with all of the speculation about the characters/actresses, etc. I feel as though I'm losing my enthusiasm for the show. I don't want to, but I'm concerned about the direction the character and representation are heading. I recognize there are a number of industry challenges to navigate, but I had really high hopes for the show, and it seems like there is only a lot of chaos. :( I have to take a wait and see approach, I'm a huge Batwoman fan, spend thousands of dollars every year in fandom, and follow a number of the CW shows. I really want this to succeed, but am fearful there is too much to overcome. I loved Ruby Rose as Batwoman, but would rather see it re-cast, then launched with another character.

I have been reading those stories today... personally, I want Kate Kane. The relationships are established. Remove Kate and things collapse. The upcoming Bruce arc makes little sense without cousin Kate. Kate is the common thread that holds the show together.

Hopefully someone faked it as a clck bait story and others ran with it.

In their joint press statement on Ruby's departure, both the network and the Batwoman producers made it clear that they were recasting the role of Kate, so I don't think there's any validity to this.

Edit: Of course, right when I make a statement of confidence, I find out that The Hollywood Reporter has weighed in on the situation and TVLine is reporting that they've independently confirmed that Kate won't be back, so now I don't know what's going on.

Great, just what we all needed - more bad news. :(

If it's true, this new chik better knock it out of the ballpark in the season opener, or the whole show is going to unravel.

On the other hand, it could be a red herring, kind of a test to see the fans response on just how bad an idea that really is. Case in point, take a peak at the spoilers section on this website - they've done it before, so... ???

Maybe Ryan is actually a new character, destined to be Kate/Batwoman's sidekick?

After giving it some thought, the ONLY plot that I can think of that would make sense for someone else taking over the mantle of Batwoman, and still be completely in character for the show... Just as Alice got Kate to kill Cartwright for her, Alice will (find and) give Jacob the Kryptonite to kill Batwoman. And when he finds out he's killed his own daughter... well, Alice did promise Jacob that she had plans for him that would be "so much more worse... than insanity... worse than being me."!

Both EW and Hollywood Reporter are now reporting on it.They usually carry more weight if they are posting about it.And TV Line too.

https://ew.com/tv/batwoman-new-character-ryan-wilder-season-2/?fbclid=IwAR04i2yxO8Y3Bflhp2ePVN3n5nxBHxMf3IsRwDmgZl_u5QadFru90nbznxQ

https://tvline.com/2020/06/02/batwoman-recast-season-2-new-character-replaces-kate-kane/

I'm just finding out about this now after watching Stargirl and the Legends finale.I'm not thrilled with this.Normally I don't mind legacy heroes(new people taking over a superhero role) but for me,that only works when there has been a legacy.I'll give this a shot ofcourse but I can't lie and say that I'm not disappointed by this.

Besides the fact we will lose the Kate and Kara friendship and dynamic, and that doesn't mean a new and different dynamic can't form between Supergirl and the new Batwoman, this just feels so off to me.

I'm sure there some now who won't even care about seeing Supergirl and Batwoman interacting again if it's not Melissa and Ruby and now not even Kara and Kate.

They just set up that major kryptonite plotline connecting Batwoman and Supergirl,we know they wanted to do a Supergirl/Batwoman crossover with Kara and Kate but COVID-19 messed that up and Melissa's maternity leave led to the Batwoman/Superman & Lois crossover next year.

But the whole setup of the Batwoman show feels so dependent on Kate Kane as Batwoman.Alice,Jacob,Mary…..does these characters even fit well now if it's a new person under the cowl? The stuff with Kate and Alice and Kate and Jacob is the backbone of the Batwoman comics which the show used at a setup for this series.Hopfully they come up with something with this new character that works with the other main characters.

I really now am curious about the original ending to season 1 of Batwoman when they would of had Ruby for a few more episodes.

Also doing the crossover between Batwoman and Superman & Lois makes even more sense now since in some ways Batwoman will be a new show too.Superman & Lois is a new series while Batwoman will have a new lead character.

Yeah, it really seems to be true.....oh man. :o
I thought it would be some very quiet months after season 1 has ended and it was announced that season 2 won't start until january. How wrong I was!
First the news with Ruby ....and now this!!!!
Which now brings up so much more questions!

How will Kate exit the show?
I mean, if Ruby isn't there they can't have any more scenes with Kate...only some scenes with Batwoman, where she is only shown from certain angles so it wouldn't be 100% clear that it isn't Ruby under that cowl.
So does Kate just leaves without any scenes at all in the first episode?
Or will Batwoman (the Kate Kane version) be killed in the very first episode of season 2?
I don't think they can make this drastic change look any "good" in that first episode....
And having a completely new Batwoman would really make look season 1 ....bad. All these storyline would be ended so abruptly, that it would feel weird at least...
With the introduction of a new character the whole Kate/Alice/Mary/Jacob relationsships collapse. And the new Bruce Wayne storyline would make way less sense.
--------------------

Will Kate Kane return at some point?

On Twitter I read the theory that this new Batwoman would be a temporary replacement and that Kate Kane would return at some point.
Well, ok, this could work, but why would they do it?
Right now they have enough time to re-cast Kate before they start filming....
*EDIT* .....UNLESS....they already have a Kate Kane/Batwoman! But that actress is bound to other projects for the next months/year and will join the show at a later point. Of course then Kate can't be killed in the first episode of season 2....she would need to disapear. The character would then return to the show and lead the team afterwards.
....

I hope that somehow that isn't true and WB/CW will make an official announcement that this news is "fake".
I was somehow ok with Ruby leaving, even I thought she did make a good job.
But this now.....brings up some many question marks!
Hopefully there will be more news on this very soon.

TV Line has put up a article about the negatives of replacing Kate Kane as Batwoman.

^ Yeah, there a quite a lot of negative aspects.
The problem for us now is, that we can't possibly see all the good aspects that might this change bring.
Only if we would know the storyline they are going with...we might see them.
And again, perhaps Kate will return at a later point....wouldn't be totally surprised by that.

Another article... updated (I posted wrong link)...

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2020/06/04/the-cw-will-not-recast-ruby-roses-kate-kane-on-batwoman-catwoman-like-lead-coming

https://screenrant.com/arrowverse-crossover-batwoman-superman-supergirl-2021

I wish the producers would show us mercy and say what is happening.

I am think the casting call statement that "Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman" may indeed be a tease of sorts. Perhaps she assists Kate with a rouse. I just can't accept that would replace Kate.

Hmmmm... per Caroline Dries:

https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/batwoman-kate-kane-exit-explained-caroline-dries-showrunner-cw

Well... I did indicate that I wished the PTB let us in on the plan so we wouldn't have to go on hearsay and speculation but, Caroline, this really isnt what fans want.

Well, on the good side, with some season 2 episodes already written WITH Kate Kane, they could still change that decision.
Even I still think that that change CAN improve the show, I think the RISK is quite huge as many are disapointed about that route right now.
DAMN, we really need some infos on their plans for season 2, the current situation drives me crazy!

Anything they had involving Kate will never see the "light of day", and everybody involved with the series is going to learn the hard way how dumb this decision is when the ratings for the show - which were already kind of low for even The CW - tank completely.

^ I don't know how the expectation in the ratings were, but the average viewership for the show was still on rank 3 of 18 of the CW shows. And in the Arrowverse only the Flash had more viewers.
And keep in mind, that are only the linear ratings, that are getting less and less important.
The CW is more about their own streaming service as many more viewers use that to view the episodes.
Most people under 30/40 don't even know there is something to watch TV episodes besides streaming. :o
(I know, slightly exagerated)

The show does rank 3rd overall on CW, but I am sure CW was disappointed that the post Crisis episodes saw a viewership drop.

Still, recasting Kate, adding the new character, just not as Batwoman, and continuing Aluce's path to Red Alice is the way to go... not dropping Kate Kane.

As I said,I'll give this a chance but I think recasting Kate rather than replacing Kate was the less risky move.I know some will reject this just based on the fact the new Batwoman is going to be a new character created by the showrunner and not from the comics.

Wow! Great find, Siggi!

Hmm... I like her, but 1) I just saw her on Flash as a villain, so... and 2) maybe it's cuz I don't see a lot of audition tapes, so without the costumes and sets, it's hard to visualize, but... I'm not feeling it.

As for the plot points alluded to - it seems Kate dies. Which would really suck. But, it does make more sense that Kate giving up the cowl, not something the Paragon of Courage would do. And I'm guessing it's Mary she's talking to, cuz she referred to "Katey" and the "Bat-team" which I don't see Luke doing.

Sharp reminds me a lot of a young(er) Katee Sackhoff. Yes, that's intended as a huge complement... Sackoff rocks!
However, I did not particularly care for the character Sunshine on the Flash. Still interesting.
